The space
This is a heritage villa, that has been recently refurbished in a rustic but comfortable finish for your pleasure.
Please Note:
Being of traditional construction, this house has a shingle roof, keeping it cooler in summers and warmer in winters. However, there is always the possibility of small leaks, especially during heavy rains/wind. Also, depending on winds, small specks of leaves/dust tend to fall through to the furniture & floors below (This is typical of village houses).
The property is located between paddies & woodland, meaning it is immersed in nature. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see lizards/spiders/beetles, and in the monsoon also snails/centipedes, in and around the property. Very rarely, snakes do visit the lower garden.
Mosquitoes are present all year round, and bug life tends to be most active during the monsoons.
While we air the rooms regularly, there can be some excess moisture and mustiness depending on the season, especially when the monsoons are in full swing - This goes with the territory!
If this is too much nature for you, Villa Nilagem is probably not your best option!
Walking through the property...
The main house has three bedrooms and a fully functional office for WFH. The large back verandah houses outdoor dining and a lounge to enjoy the peaceful & green garden view and view of the paddy fields further out.
The garden is on two levels, and the lower garden houses a quaint cozy room with ensuite bathroom. You have a work desk looking out at the fields and garden seating alongside, to sit in the grass or enjoy the feeling of green grass under your feet, while you enjoy your chai or coffee.
Bathrooms are in traditional IPS (Indian Patent Stone) finish and fully fitted to contemporary specification. IPS is hand laid in an age-old process locally called 'Ghotai', and therefore you will find colour variations, small cracks and some small black spots along edges (This is not dirt!, we clean diligently!).
There is also a spare bathroom attached to the laundry room, and we have multiple washing machines & dryers for the comfort of your stay.
The kitchen is in the main house, and we have an in-house chef (His services are included in your room rate, but ingredients are to your account) who can pamper you with preparations of your choice, or surprise you with his specialities!
This is a home in every respect, and we confident that one visit will only leave you wanting to return...
