Beauty and historicity of Delhi
Delhi is dotted with mosques of spectacular beauty and historicity. That is natural in a city which witnessed 660 years of uninterrupted Islamic rule. However many of these mosques were commissioned by women, during a period when muslim women observed complete purdah.
This comes across as significant, showing the economic and political clout they often held behind the scenes. This trend started from the period of the Mughals. The Fakhr-ul-Masjid is one of the many mosques built by Mughal women in Delhi.
